Thiruvananthapuram is very stagnent city.neither cosmopolitan nor accomodative to non-tvm'ites.
there is a lot of tamil culture.I doubt even there are marriages between nadars and nair's there.When I was searching for alliance(bride) ,My Parents(from ottappalam,palakkad) made it a point never to get a bride from kollam and trivendrum.

City is very orthodox.there is a hindu domination on everything.even syrian christians from pathanamthitta,kollam districts prefer to shift to kochi rather than trivendrum.
kochi is,overall a neutral place to live.no bias unlike trivendrum.
Another factor as I learned more about kerala is ,the minorities -that is syrian christians and mappila muslims DON'T Prefer tvm at any cost except for a few .this is because of this old culture of hindu domination bullsh1t.

While ,kochi having a majority latin catholics -are sooo accomodative of anyone from kerala.
I think ,the future for tvm is very bleak.very less.the problem is ,the culture there is overlapped by tamilian culture.that most of us hates.tamilians are considered as taboo for most of us in central kerala.

Growing bigger only adds to a city's problems. Now you will have more cars, more congestion, more trash and more potholes.

The truth is that our babus are hopelessly inefficient to plan and prepare for new growth centres. After a few years when Trivendrum becomes one among the chaotic urban slums like Blore, Mumbai or Kolkata(like what u r hoping to be) you may repent about your present whims. Now it is one of the beautiful & most livable citeis in india..you wanna change it??

Superb post man...when i read this post, i know for sure that blogs are certainly in. it is sad however that only a microscopic minority read posts like yours.

i am really excited with the rise of kazhakootam. It will be a reprieve for trivandrum too. I see the need for a metro soon. That will kill the traffic, cut down pollution and bring in a semblance of order to our chaotic city.

The pollution is very bad...people who have been living there forever dont realize it...the first two days i got a kick from the vehicle smoke...after that i also got used to it.
