@ BVN, I'm just the same age as you, so except from the print archives and memoirs of my late 'kodum sakhavu' father, I don't know much about AchuthaMenon and EMS ministries though the former is regarded as the best we ever had. I'll tell you where the current one belongs, and rightly so: at the very bottom. I'm bewildered that your assessment is at the opposite domain.

Bcoz even the rationale I hear from VS-bhakths is that 'they're not allowing VS to rule'. We all know who this 'they' are, certainly not the opposition which I think NEVER existed in the past 4 years. "VS-ine bharikkan sammathikkunnilla" argument only augments the general consensus on how this Govt has fared.

It may be because we look from different angles, apart from that I'm a 'Parasuram-ian' + 'Tharoorrian' (:P) and you're an 'EMS-ian'. I went through the official 'achievements list' you linked up and one aspect is striking, and that's my PoV. Except for plans to start IT Parks in all taluks, this Govt STARTED no notable new projects, be it in IT, tourism or industries which are income job generating. Just have a look at that and see it for yourself.

You know much better than me about FDI and (which you don't agree to bcoz of Bhopal) Economics (which you think isn't worth it because EMS's social development model is the pinnacle) but Kerala's issue is mostly related to the empty exchequer. I don't know how many times I've heard this spoken by leading economists but it always falls on deaf ears. I'm happy if you can bring in your Microsoft to Technocity (which I think is against your principle) and get some more tax-revenue for Achumama, Karunakaran, Antony or Chandy. Kerala should have money to build roads, bridges, canals, houses, hospitals, schools and parks befitting the #1 state of the fastest developing country in the World. Kerala should have funds for slum/ poverty eradication, social welfare, water/electricity supply etc. Where do we propose to find the chakram, this is what many people are asking (including Amartya Sen).

Kerala must make the best use of the opportunities created by globalisation and fight the inequalities.

Believe me, I was a happy man when VS assumed power in 2006. I had high hopes in the man but it all vanished in a few months time. What all were we promised and what we got??? This Govt is epic-fail.

Guess it comes down to the same old explanation of the deep division in Kerala on party lines. Like Mukundan said, there are 2 Keralas - - one that good old Parashuraman created by throwing his axe into the ocean and the other that EMS created without throwing an axe into the ocean. All of us belong to one of these Keralas - right wing propagandists (online term would be Tharoorians :) ) and left wing extremists. They say there is a common man, I haven't seen one. There is a floating population which moves from one Kerala to another every five years, which explains the electoral math.

That said, and as you would know, I support the Left Democratic Front in state politics, and it could be that tilt thats clouding my opinion. But, I haven't seen a better government since the time I am watching Kerala politics. And I have been an onlooker for long. I don't know about the C. Achyutha Menon cabinet, but this is the best ministry I have seen in the past 20 years.

After reading this, I might argue that things could have been better. But I wouldn't possibly say - they did "nothing". Which is extreme prejudice.

Plus I remember the time when K Karunakaran, A K Antony, Vakkam Purushothaman, CV Padmarajan, Kunjalikutty, Ommen Chandy, PH Musthafa, and Nalakathu Soopy used to run this state. I hope you remember those times when every waking minute you felt bad about people running your state. I personally believe that as we grow old, we should have memories. I do have memories of what it was when Congress-Muslim League-Mani Congress alliance was in power, and a return to those days would be the last thing I wish for the state. I do criticize the current government, it can be better, but not acknowledging the very fact that this is one of the best governments we have seen would be in my opinion - intellectual dishonesty.

I know we are speaking from different Keralas. And my Kerala is the only Southern state with no power cut. Even A K Balan, who was a laggard in the first year delivered with the sustainability campaign at the ground level. http://tvmtalkies.com/archives/210

Even with all the help from the center nothing much was done even by the previous govt. and the the state coffer was empty by the time this govt. came to power. I think some of the leaders of this govt. needs to be blamed but not all.

Anyway.. we Keralites shall look forward to the next govt. with lots of hopes that shall soon be dashed as usual :)

but even the NRI's needs to be blamed.. the only investment that we make is on a house :) and maybe gold?
