Cial has failed to give the passengers the bare minimum hassle free Boarding. All the passengers are kept in one hall to board while there are many flights leaving within half an hour space. First of all the Airport designers started with a single story building and then woke up to the reality and adding a second story to correct it's mistake. It is like they did not know that Air Planes are two story in height so that they could use mechanical boarding tunnel to board the plane. Cochin Airport still does not have separate waiting rooms for separate flights. The Airport main structure was restricted to the design similar to the design of the temples in the region. Modern Airports are built for space and sun light in mind while Cochin Airport designers tried to simulate dark and windowless temple. Cial is not showing any seriuos effort to expand and add runways to add more flights for the future passenger growth. If Cial can attract the flights going from Middle East and Europe to Asia, it can grow to be a major fuel stop and a major International Airport. Diffferent Airlines need it's own boarding area and waiting rooms. There is no smooth path ways to the arrival building to pull the carry on luggage. My carry on bag's wheel came apart when I reached the building thanks to the roughness of the path. We can do a better job than this.

Well, the Superjumbo is here to stay! I think it wont be long before it takes over the Indian skies even on domestic routes. In Japan they use the Boeing 747 widely on domestic lines. Emirates is planning to launch a budget airline utilizing the A 380's passenger carrying capacity. I think India will do the airline business better than UAE or Japan in a few years. So it is vital that we adapt our airports for this new breed of aircrafts...

And would you mind if Kingfisher gave you a Hamburg-Trivandrum direct?? ;)

Like Jiby said well researched piece..very much a professional analysis..It is heartening to see cochin airport ranked 4th in the list..Making CIAL A380 compatible is a good idea..such Kingfisher had already given orders which I believe they are not going to get before 2011 for them and orders are sure to come from Air India too..But still the clinching factor is that we are a growing market in airline sector.

well researched article. i have never flown to nedumbasseri but i feel the impact it has made because for a long time now, kochi has replaced trivandrum as the preferred destination for international flights though the demand for more intl carriers to tvm far outstrips the number of seats available.

i recently read that v.j.kurien refused a multi-crore offer from anil ambani's ADAG to resign from IAS and go to work for the new mumbai airport but he refused.

it is heartening to read of success stories like these.
